LBG's Nursery - Part 2

Here is the mood board I created for LBG's nursery. This is what it has looked liked in my head for a while now and I stumbled on a way to put it together, before it is actually put together. Now I need to get to work.

LBG's Nursery - Part 1

I shouldn't be showing you this, but here goes. This room has been sitting empty, kind of, since we moved in last year. We set up the crib when we moved in for a very special visitor and it has since been used for naps by the younger siblings of several of BBG's playmates. Otherwise, the room hasn't been touched except as a place for me to hide outgrown clothes and other (breakable)things that a two year old shouldn't have easy access to.

Thankfully, Eric recently overhauled the closets in this room and the guest room as well as adding more shelves in the garage. All of this stuff is slowly finding a new, more appropriate home.

I was planning on making this two different posts but seeing as how we are getting down to the wire, you get to see what else we've been up to. Here is my wonderful Craigslist find. I searched daily to find a dresser that was in good condition as well as the right size and style. Just when I was ready to give up and go to Ikea, I found it. The only problem was that it was a honey oak stain with firetruck drawer pulls. I was more than willing to paint it white to match the crib and it gave me the perfect excuse to use these. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

We were also able to get the room painted, which you will get to see a little better in a later post.

29 (again)

Eric celebrated his 29th birthday for the 4th time yesterday. Emory had a blast helping him celebrate. We are celebrating all weekend with E Fest, which started Wednesday with Cinco de Mayo and will continue through Saturday night. As I type, he is playing hooky from work and trying out his new golf clubs. I hope he has a wonderful birthday weekend, he deserves it. Eric, we love you very much!

I also need to wish my Momma a very happy birthday. I'm glad we got to celebrate with you a little early.

Earth Day 2010

Happy Earth Day 2010! Every year I try to make little changes in our everyday lives to be more environmentally friendly. I have to say that most of the changes that have been made recently have been because of Emory's allergies or for financial reasons. I guess it doesn't matter why you make changes, as long as you make them. Here is the good, the bad, and my goals for this year. If I put everything in writing, I'll have something to hold me accountable. I'm always open to tips and suggestions so feel free to share.

First, let me start off with the good.
1. Vinegar has many uses. We use it for everything from dishwasher rinse aid to weed killer in the yard (must use with caution-talk to me before you try this). At $1.50 a gallon it is always worth a try when you hear of a new use for it. I'm finding that it really does work for most things.
2. Seventh Generation diapers and training pants are the only disposable diapers that we can use for BBG, cloth still works the best on her extra sensitive skin but that is a large investment at this stage in her diaper wearing life and who knows what will happen with LBG.
3. Emory is turning into a mini-me. She loves to do what Eric and I do including taking her own reusable shopping bag to the store. She loves to throw stuff away and always asks if it goes in the trash or recycling.
4. We recently replaced the old BPA baby bottles for new safer plastic bottles for LBG.
5. We love hand me downs, craigslist, consignment stores and ebay.

The bad.
1. I still love my Jeep. I'm open to the suggestion of a hybrid sedan as my next vehicle, but for now, I'm happy with the Grand Cherokee.
2. I love my air conditioning. We live in the desert and I'm pregnant and I get hot, enough said.
3. I know there is more that I could do like be better about turning off the lights, taking shorter showers and unplugging things when they aren't in use. Our TV seems to be on at all times.

Now for my goals.
1. Pay more attention to what is in the products we use. This website is fascinating.
2. Cut way back on using paper towels and napkins.
3. I want to try the one can a month challenge. I don't know how this will work with two in diapers, we'll see what happens.

Swim Lessons

We started swim lessons this morning. Emory was a little timid in the beginning and didn't want to go with Miss Mary. It only took a couple minutes of seeing the other kids having fun for her to jump right in, literally. I guess we should be happy that she is afraid of strangers. As I figured, she was the kid that didn't want to stay on the steps while Miss Mary was working one on one with the other kids and had to be "rescued". At the end of class, she was the only one that actually jumped to Miss Mary without holding hands. I'm really hoping that this class will teach her to be safe around water, I don't expect her to be ready for the swim team just yet, just learning to float on her back.
